The phased out Vietnam War Bell UH-1H Iroquois (Huey), always a hero to every Singaporean. The UH-1H Iroqouis or "Huey" helicopter is one of the world's most versatile lightweight utility helicopters. Born in the 1950s, the H-variant was introduced first in the Vietnam War in 1967.
The RSAF acquired the UH-1H in 1977 and is operated by 120 SQN. It is designed primarily for the transportation of troops and cargo. The size of the helicopter allows landings in small jungle openings, otherwise inaccessible to bigger helicopters. The UH-1H can be employed in medical evacuation, resupply, troop-lift and special operations roles. Throughout the 30 years of service, the UH-1H has proven itself as a dependable, reliable workhorse for the RSAF.
