林清丰家族史

1	Introduction
1.1	I have written a book, titled林 清 丰 家 族 史 as a gift to Dad, 林清丰(勳恩).

2	Born in 1936 Year of Rat
2.1	Dad was born in 中國廣東省,揭陽縣, 西门外, 江后村, son of 林刘敬(运贤)and 郑玉森, grandson of 林奕城 and 刘知禾.

2.2	His mother travelled all the way from Singapore to China, Jieyang in year 1936. Together with her elder son, Lim Hai Hong林海丰 who was then 2-3 years old, they sailed to China in fear of Japanese attacking Singapore.

2.3	Few months after Dad was born, his mother returned to Singapore with her elder son and Dad on hearing that Japanese would be attacking China. 

3	Year 1937 to 1960
3.1	Till the age of 18, Dad was staying in 柴山Kim Chuan Road off Paya Lebar. So was Mum. They were childhood friends.

3.2	Grandpa had a shop in New Market Street, also known as Hong Kah Street. Dad helped to make clay stove for sale in Grandpa’s shop. 
3.3	At the age of 18 or year 1954, Dad and Mum’s family were resettled to Koh Sek Lim Road to make way for Paya Lebar Airport. 

3.4	After graduating from Sin Hwa Primary School in year 1957, Mum went to Yock Eng Secondary School and completed Secondary Education (Secondary 3) in year 1960. A year after her graduation, she married Dad. 

4	Married in 1961
4.1	Dad and Mum were married in 1961. 

4.2	They gave birthday to 7 children within 9 years from their marriage.

5	Our Home 
5.1	We lived with Grandpa in an attap house. We had a room to ourselves (7 in a room). In year 1969, Dad built his own home at 149 Koh Sek Lim Road, Singapore 1648. It was a wooden house with zinc roof and in-house toilet with flushing system. 

5.2	Dad was successful in his business. In 1971, Dad bought a Mercedes, plate number SV1417. Subsequently, he changed to another Mercedes, plate number E9530B. 

6	Growing Up - Play
6.1	We had a happy childhood, thanks to Dad. We went outings on weekends and learnt swimming.

6.2	In 1972, Dad went Taiwan for tour. Mum went Taiwan in 1974. 

7	Year 1989 to 1998 Weddings
7.1	Within 10 years, the 7 of us got married and started our family. 

7.2	Mum and Dad have a total of 15 grandchildren.

8	Birthdays
8.1	Dad celebrated his 60th Birthday in Year 1995 at a Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown Point. In year 1996, he survived a heart attack.

8.2	Dad celebrated his 70th Birthday in Year 2005 at Yishun Country Club.

8.3	We celebrated Dad’s 80th Birthday on 22 Nov 2014 at Tung Lok Restaurant in Changi City Point. 

9	23 Apr 2014 to 26 Apr 2014 Trip to China, Jieyang 
9.1	Dad wanted to see his birthplace in China, Jieyang. Although Dad went touring in China before, he had never visited his birthplace.

9.2	My husband, my sisters林愛鸾, 林靜鸾 and I brought Dad and Mum to China from 23 Apr 2014 to 26 Apr 2014. It was a fulfilling and memorable trip. We had never brought Dad for tour and were glad that he gave us the opportunity to do so. 

10	Family Gathering 
10.1	Ever since we moved out of our kampong in Koh Sek Lim Road in year 1985, we hardly had the chance to meet our uncle, aunties and cousins.

10.2	I took 2-3 years to gather old photos, scanned, organised them, drew the family tree and arranged them into slides. To make it more interesting, I added music and voice recording.

10.3	On 1 Jan 2007, Dad and his siblings’ get together at Dahlia Park function room. I shared with them the slides. There were laughter and shocking moments as the slides revealed our younger days. It was a happy occasion for everyone present and helped to build stronger bonding among relatives. 

10.4	Dad and his siblings’ get together again on 31 Dec 2014 at Dahlia Park function room.

11	30 Years Community Involvement
11.1	Dad is active in community work and a PAP supporter.

11.2	We stayed in Koh Sek Lim and Dad started helping then MP, Teo Chong Tee for Changi Constituency. After we moved to Tampines, he supported the late MP, Tay Eng Soon, followed by then MP Ong Kian Min and now, MP Baey Yam Kheng.

11.3	He was conferred 30 years long service award in Community Service.

11.4	Dad is also the Vice Chairman of Tiang Lim Association.

12	Achievements
12.1	Dad’s greatest achievement is in raising 7 children; comprising a doctor, two pilots and has 15 grandchildren. All children are filial to him and financially stable, able to provide him with finance when needed.

12.2	He was the envy of most people in Koh Sek Lim, driving a Mercedes in 1970s.

12.3	He helps people who needed financial help. 

12.4	RC members respected him for what he has done for the community.

13	Wishes
13.1	This is what Dad said in the video recorded on 31 Dec 2012:
“希望孙子长大,受好的教育,有好的生活。
  希望身体健康,生活快乐, 家庭美满,心已满足了。”

14	Last Journey
14.1	Dad passed away peacefully at home, Blk 406 Tampines Street 41 #01-23, Singapore 520406 on Sunday, 24 May 2015 at 8.13pm. 

14.2	Dad, we love you!
